Feeding Our Community

About Family Strengthening Program

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside, we recognize that a child’s success depends on more than just academic support—it requires meeting their most fundamental needs. Through our Family Strengthening: Food Distribution Outreach Program, we provide Club families and community members with weekly grocery bags filled with nutritious food and essential staple items to help alleviate food insecurity.

A significant number of our Club youth and families face food insecurity daily, often forced to make difficult choices between putting food on the table or paying for rent, utilities, or other basic needs. This makes our food distribution program a vital resource for those we serve.

Hunger is more than an empty stomach—it directly impacts a child's ability to focus, learn, and thrive. Food insecurity is strongly linked to poor concentration, lower academic achievement, and an increased risk of grade repetition or not graduating. In a recent study, 46% of children reported that hunger negatively affects their academic performance. Additionally, children facing hunger are more than twice as likely to struggle with behavioral health challenges, including anxiety and difficulty regulating emotions.

By ensuring families have access to nutritious meals each week, we are not only addressing immediate hunger but also promoting long-term success by supporting academic achievement, emotional resilience, and overall well-being. Our goal is to strengthen families, promote stability, and create a healthier, more connected community—one meal at a time.
